My Journey
A Personal Path to Wellness
A Life’s Journey: From Advertising to Counselling
At the age of 50, I embarked on a transformative journey, leaving behind a 30-year career in the fast-paced world of advertising to pursue a more fulfilling path in counselling. Driven by a desire for personal growth and a passion for helping others, I returned to school, completing both my bachelor’s and master’s degrees in five-years.
Embracing Life’s Roles
Beyond my professional endeavors, I wear several hats with equal dedication and love. As a son, I provide care and support to my 94-year-old mother, who is navigating the challenges of dementia. For over 25 years, I have been a husband to my wife, Cindy, and a father to two adult children. It was through the profound experience of adopting an older child that I realized the depth of knowledge I lacked in understanding human psychology — a realization that fueled my decision to pursue counselling.
Honoring a Father’s Legacy
As a tribute to my late father, who passed away in 2014, I named my counseling practice “Rucksack.” This moniker holds a special significance, as it was the German word for “backpack” that my father fondly used to describe his beloved companion during his working years in Germany. Rucksack honors his memory and the invaluable lessons he imparted, carrying them forward as I embark on this new chapter of my life’s journey.
